Our Founder: Logan Pillay

I have spent my entire career in the banking sector, working at three of South Africa’s leading banks. During this time, I gained extensive experience in:
· Managing home loan and foreclosure portfolios
· Working in Home Loans collections
· Overseeing matters under Debt Counselling (DC), including defaults and litigation processes
· Coordinating with attorneys on litigation and recovery actions
· Managing the end-to-end process of bond cancellations
These are just some of my key functions, as I have also worked across various other departments within the banking environment. This background has given me a deep understanding of the financial, legal, and practical challenges South Africans face when dealing with debt, property, and credit obligations.
What sets me apart is not only my technical knowledge, but also my commitment to ethics, transparency, and trust. I believe every client deserves to be treated with dignity, honesty, and respect. My goal is to use the knowledge I’ve gained in the banking and legal environment to help individuals and families find practical, sustainable ways to become debt-free while protecting their rights.
With professionalism and integrity at the core of everything I do, I am dedicated to walking alongside my clients on their journey toward financial freedom.
Frequently Asked Questions
Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers.
These are typical questions that we have received from our clients.
What is Debt Counselling?
Struggling with debt and monthly repayments? Debt counselling can help.
A registered counsellor will review your finances and negotiate a single, affordable repayment plan with your creditors, often lowering your interest rates and monthly costs.
Protected by the National Credit Act, debt review stops creditors from taking legal action against you.
All consultations are fully confidential.
Will I lose my house or car?
No. Debt counselling helps protect your assets from repossession through legal restructuring.
What are the cost implications?
Fees are regulated by the NCR and included in your monthly repayment plan—no hidden or upfront costs.
Costs vary depending on your debt type and repayment amount but will include debt counselling and legal fees. Both are incorporated into your restructuring plan, so you won’t pay anything extra to start the process.
Debt counselling fees are set by the National Credit Regulator and are consistent across registered companies. Legal fees depend on your debt type and repayment plan.
Do I need to go to court?
No, you will never have to attend any court proceedings, as Smart Solutions Debt Counselling nominated attorneys will obtain the court order for you. The legal fees relating to the court order is included in your reduced monthly debt repayment amount.
Why should I consider Debt Review?
You should consider debt review if you are currently unable—or expect to be unable—to meet your debt repayments. Debt review protects your assets and stops credit providers from taking legal action against you. It also helps lower your monthly repayments and interest rates, making your overall financial situation easier to manage.
What are the requirements for debt counselling?
You qualify if you’re over-indebted—struggling or falling behind on repayments—and have a monthly income. Unemployed individuals do not qualify. Being blacklisted or having a bad credit record does not prevent you from qualifying.
Why Smart Solutions Debt Counselling?
We are a registered debt counselling service committed to helping South Africans take back control of their finances. Whether you’re overwhelmed with debt, facing legal pressure, or just need guidance—we’re here to help.
